Watching praying mantises seems to be one of the happiest memories that I have from my childhood. I grew up fascinated by this lovely and elegant creature. Whenever I came back from school, there would always be at least one perched on our grape vine in the garden and I would spend my afternoon watching it be still and enjoy the sunlight. With this drawing, I wanted to immortalize the simple elegance in which I always found praying mantises. Their slender body is displayed with soft strokes combined with pointillism. Their lightness is emphasized by a discreet and soft background and foreground framing this remarkable creature.
